Cross-Country Skiing: Update to the Update

Feb 1, 2018

If you've listened to our Speedskating/Cross-Country Skiing episode, you know that the Cross-Country world's had a bit of turmoil due to the Russian doping scandal.

Events keep changing the situation for the Olympics: Today, the Court of Arbitration of Sport handed down decisions in 39 of the 42 appeals by Russians regarding the IOC's decision to have their Sochi awards revoked and ban them for life.

Twenty-eight of those appeals were upheld--including those for eight cross-country skiers--meaning that the IOC's evidence was insufficient, the sanctions are revoked, and they'll have their Sochi results reinstated.

For another 11 cases, the lifetime ban has been downgraded to just a ban for the PyeongChang games. This includes three cross-country skiers.

There are three appeals still outstanding for three biathletes. They'll be heard after the PyeongChang Olympics.

We'll keep updating the story as we hear more--no wonder the author of Jill's favorite book can't keep up and put out valid records!
